Preparing For Your Shoot

Preparation is key to getting the most out of your photoshoot. You know your brand and the customer you are trying to appeal to better than anyone else! Thinking ahead about the styling and creating a shot list will make the shoot process more efficient and make sure you get all the shots you need.

BRAND AND AUDIENCe

Think about the customer you are trying to attract, the style of your products and your brand’s colour palette. This will lead the way when thinking about your styling in terms of props and backgrounds.

Is your brand modern, traditional, eco, luxury, budget friendly? What kind of person would buy it? How you describe your brand will help you think about the look and feel you are after.

RESEARCH & MOOD BOARDING

Now that you have thought about your brand and its audience, you can do some research and gather images for inspiration reference. You can save images from my website, or PINTEREST is a great resource.

INFORMATION I NEED FOR THE SHOOT

I ask each client to supply the following information:
- how many products you have
- how many shots per product you need
- if you need any group shots. If so, which combinations?
- a moodboard / inspiration images

If you want to take the lead with the shoot planning and be quite specific, you can create a slides document as shown here (I can send a template on request). If you trust my judgement, a moodboard and rough shotlist is fine!

COLLECT PROPS

Gather props with your colour palette in mind.
I have a variety of props available for shoots but I also ask clients to send a few of their own props to me to make the images unique to them and helps tell the story of their brand. The bigger the range of props to choose from the better! If I feel something would work particularly well for the shoot, I will make some suggestions of things to source.

PRODUCTS

Make sure you leave enough time for products to arrive from production prior to the shoot. Sometimes there can be problems with samples or delayed delivery from factories, so it’s good to leave a buffer so theres no delays to your shoot.
